Last December, Anita was excitedly preparing for Christmas, buying gifts and planning surprises for her family.
One evening, her phone rang. The caller ID showed an unknown number. She almost ignored it… but curiosity got the better of her, and she answered.
“Hello, this is CityParcel Delivery. We have a Christmas gift for you, but we need 500 Rupees delivery fee to release it.” the voice said.
She was confused because she hadn’t ordered any parcel.
“It’s a special Christmas gift sent by your friend. Pay the fee now through the payment portal we will send, or the package will be returned,” the voice insisted.
Feeling nervous, Anita quickly opened the link and entered her card details because it is just 500 Rupees. Within seconds, she noticed money being disappearing from her account. Panic set in.
Thinking fast, she immediately blocked her card and contacted her bank. Luckily, the bank was able to stop further transactions, but she had already lost a small amount.
She realized she had been scammed by someone who had tricked her with a fake delivery, knowing how excited she was for Christmas.
Anita shared her story with hithawathi to warn others so they wouldn’t make the same mistake.
