Kasun, 27, had been feeling left behind. Many of his friends were getting married and settling down, while he was still searching for a partner. Despite having a good job and a stable income, being single had started to weigh on him.

One day, while scrolling through Facebook, he came across anadvertisement for a dating app available in Sri Lanka. A friend
also told him that someone had found a partner through the same app.

Feeling hopeful, Kasun downloaded it and created an account.

Soon, he started chatting with a woman who seemed genuinely interested in him. Their conversations became almost constant,
and Kasun quickly became emotionally attached.

One day, she suggested meeting in person.

Kasun was over the moon.

But the next day, everything changed.

A friend showed him an account that was posting Kasun’s privatephotos and videos, along with false and damaging claims about him.

Kasun was scared out of his wits. He had never recorded or sharedthose videos. So how had they ended up online?

After telling his friend what had happened, Kasun began to puttwo and two together. He suspected the dating app he had installed.

He discovered that the app had been given access to sensitive information and features on his phone, including his camera and gallery. What had seemed like a chance to find love had turned into a nightmare.

His friend directed him to Hithawathi, where Kasun was advised to review permissions of all the apps,
revoke unnecessary access, uninstall the suspicious app and secure his accounts. He was also advised to preserve evidence and lodge
a police complaint.
