Nirosha joined an online Child Psychology course in March 2025. The course was supposed to have 8 sessions and 20 hours of lessons. She paid LKR 20,000 for it.
Everything seemed okay at the beginning. She attended 4 sessions and was learning well. But after that, the classes just stopped. There were no updates, no messages, and no reason given.
Nirosha tried calling and messaging the course coordinator but no one replied. She waited for some time, thinking there might be a delay. But nothing happened. She realized something was wrong.
So, she sent a message to Hithawathi live chat.
Hithawathi directed her to make a police complaint and also file a complaint with the cybercrime unit of the CID, as it was a scam and legal steps were needed in such matters.
Now, Nirosha is trying to get help and wants others to be careful as well.
What Can We Learn?
- Before paying for any online course, check properly if it’s trustworthy, you may refer testimonials of students.
- Keep all payment receipts, emails, and messages as proof.
- If something looks wrong or the course suddenly halts, don’t stay silent; report it to the Police or the Cyber Crime Division of CID
- When you feel unsure or something doesn’t seem right, always take a moment to double-check.
Let’s protect ourselves and others from online scams.
